A number of the items at Eastney Engine Houses came to be in our collections thanks to generous donations from members of the public. These items help us more effectively tell the story of the engines and why they were so important – whilst also helping to keep the city’s heritage free to access for city residents and visitors alike.

In fact, some of our most popular items actually came from public donations.

Visit the Portsmouth Museums site for information on our Local History collection.

If you have an item to donate, take a read through our procedure information page, which details the steps involved and the contact details for you to get in touch.

You can make a financial donation to Eastney Engine Houses through the Portsmouth City Council payment gateway. This allows us to keep 100% of your donation, whilst also ensuring all payment details are kept secure.

Make a donation using the online form. From that page, scroll to the bottom and click ‘Miscellaneous’. In the drop-down menu that appears, select ‘Donations’. Another menu will appear, asking which museum you wish to donate to. Select ‘Donation Eastney Gas Engine’, then you’ll be able to enter your details and specify a donation amount. On this page, where it says ‘Account name’, simply type: Donation.

If you’d prefer to donate in person, we have a collection box at the museum.
